PLEASE NOTE: We have moved to a Sunday-only yoga schedule for the month of May. Furthermore, we will be suspending our yoga classes at the end of the month in order to reevaluate and restructure our yoga program. The last yoga class in the studio before our summer hiatus will be held on Sunday, May 19. The rest of the studio schedule is unaffected by this change. We look forward to serving you with new services, additional class offerings, and a revamped and robust yoga program in the fall. Your feedback and suggestions for our improvement are more than welcome! All questions about our yoga program and yoga class schedule should be directed to Jason Gould, Studio Director. Jason can also be reached at (617) 230-1973. Enjoy the summer!Classes and Schedule We practice a variety of yoga styles at Urban Renewal Yoga. In each class you'll receive personal instruction in the various yoga postures (asanas), and breathing methods (pranayama). Individuals are free to work at their own level without judgment, yet all are gently encouraged to explore and challenge their own personal boundaries of physical comfort. Meditation and chanting (mantra) are frequently used as techniques for centering, and most classes conclude with a period of deep relaxation (shivasana) to cultivate a tranquil heart and to restore a sense of balance and harmony to the body and mind. Everything we do in yoga is designed to bring physical ease and mental peace. After only a short period of regular training, you'll look forward not only to the physical workout that yoga provides, but also to the quiet, "stillpoint" in your day. As you continue along the yoga path, you'll begin to enjoy the benefits of greater endurance and improved mental focus. With experience comes confidence, and in time you'll find yourself going deeper into your poses, or playfully and mindfully experimenting with some of the more challenging postures. We hope that the practice of yoga will help you to expand your awareness both outwardly and inwardly. As an accompaniment to the experience of yoga in our studio, you'll be introduced to relevant passages from a variety of ancient texts as well as the writings of more contemporary authors. The studio's growing yoga library contains a wealth of information on the yogic lifestyle, and all studio members are welcome to borrow reading materials and other resources to broaden and deepen their understanding and appreciation of the various aspects of yoga.
We want to develop a robust schedule that meets the needs of our members, and we invite you to provide us with your input and feedback as we develop our yoga program. If there are particular kinds of classes or specific meeting times that you would like to see, let us know! For a list of other classes and services provided at our studio, please click here. |
